10 ways to increase your Etsy sales

I‘ve been experimenting with Etsy sales. I’ve added items from our main printing and promotional business to raise awareness as well as to make sales, but I’ve also placed items on the site that can be purchased as a single item – t shirts, coffee mugs, shower curtains and such.

And in a short time, I learned these 10 ways to increase Etsy sales.

1) Fill in the whole headline and don’t be afraid to change it.
There is room in the headline for each item for a lot of words, use up the space, this area is just as good as keywords and tags for your items. The more words you use, the better chance of being seen.

2) Use proper keywords on Etsy and tags on each item.
If selling a coffee mugs on Etsy with fish images, use all sorts of tags property like “fish” “coffee” “housewarming” “housewarming gifts,” etc. Vary the keywords, don’t just stick to one single theme when many themes fit the item.

3) Don’t be afraid to change the Etsy tags or the headline for the item.
If Father’s Day is coming up, add that to the keywords or item title, same with Christmas or Easter or St. Patrick’s Day or any keyword that will fit in with the item you are selling. But only add these words if they are accurate. If selling a t shirt that says, “I love Dad,” that is perfect for Christmas and Father’s Day, but of course would not fit property for St. Patrick’s Day.

4) Sell Etsy worldwide.
The more places you sell, the more people will see your items. Many countries as well as U.S. States and sections of the world do not have access to many items. They don’t have a Target or Wal-Mart in their town perhaps, so open up your world to their world. Share your products with the world, you’ll be amazed where people are who are interested in your items.

5) Ship your Etsy items free if possible.
If you can add the price into the item and not bring up the price very much, it’s  good idea to use free shipping. That is always a draw and it makes people want to purchase.

People “favorite” this shower curtain a lot. So we put it on sale.

6) People will “favorite” or “like” items you have on your Etsy page.
Make note of it, especially if one or two particular items are getting noticed more than others. It’s a good idea to lower the price or put the items on sale that people are interested in. The best part of this is that the person who liked or favorited an item will be notified that the item was marked down and in many cases, people will purchase in order to get the lower price while the item is on sale.

7) Put Etsy items on sale frequently.
It’s easy to have sales on certain items or every item in your Etsy shop. Put items on sale. Experiment. Simply marking down items will attract attention.

8) Experiment with items if possible.
Mix things up in your shop. While it’s great to have a theme to your shop, many people will find you and items by doing searches so if someone is looking for a bathrobe and you have that, you may also find someone who is looking for a star-shaped earrings if you have that too. Be eclectic.

9) Give a discount on Etsy for abandoned shopping carts.
That is when someone goes to purchase an item but they have second thoughts. There is a feature on Etsy where you can send out a coupon code for a person who is about to leave the shopping cart before finalizing the sale. This is an excellent feature and it works very often. It’s worth the little discount you offer (10 to 15% maybe), in order to get the sale. A discounted sale is better than no sale.

10) And finally, be part of the Etsy community.
“Like” or “favorite” other people’s items, like their shops, follow them, read their blogs, comment, be part of the whole experience, the more you give, the more you get. Don’t just be stagnant. Be friendly and engaging.

So these are some tips I’ve learned as a newbie on Etsy. It didn’t take long for me to figure these things out. There are obvious things to do like participate in social media, share your items with friends and of course have people review your items after they buy, but these 10 items above seem to be overlooked most of the time. I hope you take them into consideration to help your Etsy shop make more sales.

Wedding on a budget

By: Gina Brown

Traditionally, the bride's family paid for the costs of a wedding while the groom would incur the expense of the honeymoon. These days it is not uncommon to find many couples paying for their own wedding from their own funds. However, you don't have to spend a fortune or go into debt to have a beautiful wedding. Determine the amount of your budget and stick to it. Keep track of all your expenses and receipts in a folder or binder so that you can stay organized and accurately keep track of where your money is going. Here are some helpful tips to help you stay within your wedding budget.

Wedding Dress
• Avoid overly elaborate dresses because they will be more expensive.
• Choose a floor sample dress and just have it dry cleaned if necessary.
• Look for your dress during prom and homecoming or consider wearing a bridesmaid dress. You can find a beautiful white or cream colored dress during that would be perfect for a wedding at a fraction of the cost of a traditional wedding dress.
• Look at consignment shops and the classified ads. Wedding dresses are generally only worn once so you can get a gently used dress at a huge cost savings.

Reception
• Keep the number of guests down. You and the groom should look at the first draft of the guest list and carefully consider who can be taken off the list.
• Have a cash bar instead of an open bar. Or you can also just provide wine and beer to keep the costs down.
• Hold the ceremony and reception in the same location. You will be able to cut the cost of the location for the ceremony, decorations and transportation to the reception site.

Flowers
• Purchase your flowers wholesale and just pay for the labor of a professional florist to arrange them.
• Arrange the flowers yourself. A bouquet made of all roses with a little eucalyptus filler and tied with ribbon makes a stunning bouquet and you do not need to be a professional to put this together.

Photography
• Find a photographer with reasonable hourly rates and pay only for the time to do your formal poses. You can then designate friends or family to take the candid shots throughout the rest of the reception.
• Put disposable cameras at each table with a note asking guests to take pictures to help you capture memories.

Invitations
• Print your own invitations using your home computer. Visit your local arts and crafts store or search online and purchase a do-it-yourself invitation kit.

Miscellaneous
• Make your own wedding favors. Wrap up jordan almonds or other candies in lace and tie with ribbon pre-printed with your names and wedding date.
• Keep the number of chosen bridesmaids and groomsmen to a minimum or choose not to have them at all. This will keep the rehearsal dinner cost down as well as eliminate the need to buy groomsmen and bridesmaid gifts.

Gift Registry
Have you thought of thing things you'll need in your new married life? A gift registry is perfect for that and it makes it so easy for guests to purchase gifts that they know you will love. It makes it even easier in that the gifts can be delivered to you ahead of time and guests don't need to bring them to the party/reception.

• Macy's has a beautiful registry which is FREE to set up and operate and so easy for guests to navigate. There is everything from crystal to everyday appliances and housewares you choose what you would like and you have all of Macy's at your disposal to choose from. Check it out here.  Sign up in minutes and be done with that task.

5 Health Benefits of Drinking White Wine

By Andrew Stratton

It is common knowledge that a glass of wine a day has many health benefits. However, it was always assumed that was attributed to reds only. But studies indicate that white wine has many of the same properties.

Antioxidants

It has been suggested that heart-healthy benefits come from the compounds found in the skins, which is what gives reds their color. These skins are separated out during the making of white wine. This process is what lead most to researchers to believe that the reds were the only ones with the heart-healthy benefits.

In the last ten years, however, research has indicated that the pulp of the grapes have many of the same antioxidants as the skin. As the pulp is obviously not separated out during the process. However, it is important to note that while there have been improvements in heart functions for white wine drinkers, it is not to the same degree as those who enjoy reds.

Disease Prevention

In the past, reds were also believed to have disease prevention qualities that white wine had lost. Thanks to the antioxidants being found within the pulp of the grape and not the skin, these prevention qualities are also found in the lighter drinks. These drinks contain the properties for lung disease prevention and even breast cancer.

Less Severe Hangover

One of the byproducts of fermentation is the hangover, an effect caused by chemicals called congeners. Congeners are also responsible for the color, aroma, and taste in an alcoholic beverage. Darker beverages tend to have a higher concentration of these chemicals. White wines are lighter in color and have a lower amount of congeners than red wines, which are deeper in hue. While you can still suffer from a hangover if you consume copious amounts, white wines are less severe than if you were to drink an entire bottle of a darker option.

Improved Glucose Control

Wines are full of sugar, especially sweet varieties. Despite the excess sugar, studies conducted by the European Society of Cardiology show that those who regularly consume a single glass or two each day have better control of their glucose. For those who have well-controlled diabetes, adding a glass a night can be part of a healthy diet.

Improved Sleep

Those who have problems sleeping might skip the medication and choose a glass of white wine instead. The studies performed by the European Society of Cardiology show that one or two glasses at the end of the night might actually improve your sleep. This is because the alcohol content is a depressant, slowing your system down and helping you to relax. The important thing to remember is not to drink too much. This will keep you from waking with a hangover.

When consumed in moderation, white wine has many of the same health benefits as reds. There is no reason to think of this drink as your "guilty pleasure" anymore, as long as you don't over do it.
